The Celtic Leine
Pronounced Len-ya, the Leine is a full sleeved garment gathered along the arm length and trimmed with celtic trim along arms and neck opening.

Carolyn Staehle

Legend is that only the wealthy had enough riches to afford large sleeves.

So the longer and larger your sleeves, the richer you were...

Steffon Dalberg

There are no actual surviving leine from times past.

All we have are descriptions found in manuscripts and woodblock prints.

Lady Carolyn

 Lord Steffon

Sunara's version of the leine does not have the pull ties but trim to hold the fabric in place..

Lady Leine

The trim is a 1-1/2 inch wide Celtic Dog/Griffin design in black and silver/grey for those who enjoy subtlety.

Scott Mosbaugh

 Lady Leine

 Lord Scott

 Hilarie the Puppeteer

There are woodblock prints of people whose sleeves were so long they had to have servants walk behind them holding up their sleeves out of the mud.

Susan Cole

The sleeves were also used to carry their belongings instead of pouches or baskets.

So say the legends....
